Eco-friendly Heat Exchanger

L&G Engineering is pleased to announce great results from a wet heat exchange system that we installed at a prestigious manufacturing company.

This 44kw unit uses waste from one of the fryer’s exhaust flues. The heat is recovered from the 300ºC flue gas and used to heat the thermal water storage vessels, providing hot water for the showers and underfloor heating in the new amenity block. This reduces the flue emissions into the atmosphere to a temperature of 90ºC.

Here at L&G we aim to be at the forefront of this kind of technology, installing systems that ensure optimum efficiency and clever use of available resources. Lowering the environmental impact of industry is high on our agenda.

Further Skillweld Success!

L & G Engineering is pleased to announce further success by one of our bright, young apprentices in the Skillweld National Welding Competition.

Reece Laurie took part in the East Anglian semi-finals at Great Yarmouth College with fellow students Dean Chesters and Raymond Legg, exercising great skill to win the heat. Reece hopes to be amongst the top 10 highest scorers to make it through to the grand final, following in the footsteps of L & G apprentice Josh Peek, who participated last year, winning the bronze medal in this prestigious competition.

Entrants to the Skillweld competition have to complete a number of timed tests, with their work being carefully scrutinised by a panel of judges, meaning that they need to demonstrate both speed and accuracy in their work.

Following the heat, Reece declared that he was “very happy to have won” and had “really enjoyed taking part”. We’d like to congratulate him on his successful performance and wish him good luck in his quest for the finals.

Gas Pipe Installation For Camstar Herbs

One of L&G Engineering’s tailor-made projects has been the installation of a gas main to supply the furnace used in the herb-drying process at Suffolk-based herb producers Camstar.

Camstar are major herb suppliers, growing, drying, freeze drying and freezing a comprehensive range of popular herbs. They also blend herbs and spices to the requirements of individual customers.

Camstar’s new, powerful (6000kw, 20 MBTU, 6m) furnace plays a major part in the herb-drying process, which involves blowing preheated air through a large, rotating drum.

This was a great project to work on, one of many that L&G undertake for manufacturers and suppliers of top quality food products.

Washdown System For Vion

L&G Engineering has designed, manufactured and installed a heat pack for a high pressure, hot water washdown system, at high quality meat and poultry producers, Vion Food Group.

The new skid-mounted buffer tank and twin 900kw heat exchangers and pumps were installed at one of Vion’s Norfolk poultry facilities, and are controlled by a custom-built PA control panel, which can be integrated with factory BMS system if required. This system enables rigorous hygiene standards to be maintained. It is essential for equipment in the food production industry to undergo high-pressure, high temperature cleansing, using efficient water-spraying technology, in order to satisfy Health and Safety requirements.

L&G Engineering has experience in the production and installation of specialist equipment used in many branches of the food production industry, providing many prominent manufacturers and suppliers with up-to-the-minute, high quality systems and machinery.

Apprenticeship Success!

Two of L&G’s talented young apprentices, Reece Laurie and Josh Peek, have recently passed their second year apprenticeship papers – well done to them both!

Josh was also entered into the East Anglian heat of Skillweld, the most prestigious national competition for welders, where he put in a skilled performance to achieve first place.

Accompanied by L&G Company Director, David Gowen, Josh attended the competition final at the NEC, where all 10 area winners competed for the coveted title. Josh demonstrated excellent welding skills, winning him a treasured bronze Skillweld medal – a fantastic achievement, as he is only 18 years of age!

The competition tests all three welding processes – stick welding, MIG welding and TIG welding – putting competitors skills under close scrutiny.

We are very proud of Josh’s achievement, and value both Josh and Reece’s hard work for L&G. May they both continue to enjoy much success.

Heat Recovery Projects

Here at L&G Engineering we have been working on two interesting heat recovery projects within recent weeks.

Firstly, a ‘dry heat’ project for an existing customer who required heat exchangers designed to re-use heat generated by their fryer, to create warmth in their hot air system, in order to heat the factory.

We have also been working on a 'wet heat' project for a new company amenities block, creating a system whereby waste heat warms circulating water in the heat exchanger which can then be used to take over from the existing heating boiler helped by a PLC controller unit.

L&G Engineering is at the forefront of this kind of technology and we are proud of our workmanship and our technical knowledge. To find our more information about all L&G’s engineering services and what we can offer you visit our website at: http://www.landgengineering.co.uk/

Eco Involvement at L&G

L&G Engineering have recently completed installations for the new Eco Building on the Rackheath Industrial Estate, which has recently opened for training courses.

Our main area of involvement was the design manufacture and installation of a mild steel staircase for the Training Centre – a major project that required expert fitting due to the limited space available for manoeuvre.

L&G have also manufactured the solar panel support brackets fitted to the roof, so that solar energy can be used for the building’s heating and hot water supply.

We have been very pleased to be involved in such a worthwhile, ecological project and are keen to take on similar projects in the future.
