It’s Go For Gothenburg

Our hard-working apprentice Josh Peek was recently awarded ‘Highly Commended’ in the recent ‘Apprentice Of The Year’ Award for the East of England region and is now looking forward to attending EuroSkills 2016 in Gothenburg at the start of December.

In anticipation of this great event, Josh recently met with Broadland MP, The Right Honourable Keith Simpson, as you can see here.

We’re very proud of Josh, his great welding skills and his determination to do well. We wish him every success in Gothenburg and hope he has a great trip.

Upgrade For Aspall

We’re always pleased to work with prestigious local companies, one of the latest being Aspall of Suffolk, a renowned cyder producer.

Aspall’s first apple orchards were established in 1728 and today the traditional, family firm grows 46 different varieties of apple from which they produce their delicious cyder, pressing, fermenting, blending and bottling the drink on site. Visit www.aspall.co.uk for more information.

The L and G engineers have been working on extensions to the company’s steam main and installation of pipework at their busy premises. Our engineering skills and industrial gas registration ensure we have the right credentials for specialist work of this type.

Fryers By The Batch

At L and G Engineering we’re already known for our fabrication of commercial batch fryers and are pleased to be currently working on three new units for the overseas market.

One of our former European clients was so impressed by the first fryer that we supplied to them that they’ve ordered another that we plan to deliver in early autumn. We’re also working hard to fulfill a batch fryer order to a company based in the Middle East – we’re certainly getting a name internationally!

In addition to batch fryers, we produce, install and maintain a wide range of food processing equipment, including a variety of conveyor systems, industrial ovens and dryers and specialised food manufacturing equipment.

Apprenticeship Joy For Josh

Our apprentice Josh has continued to go from strength to strength, not only emerging as an expert welder, but becoming recognised in a series of competitions and awards.

Josh is a former bronze medal winner at Skillweld, has been selected for Squad UK in the WorldSkills 2017 championship in Dubai and is due to take part in the EuroSkills 2016 event in Gothenberg, for which he has been attending weekend training sessions in Cumbria. Having been entered for the ‘Apprentice Of The Year’ Award for the East of England region, Josh has now been named as a finalist in the National Apprenticeship Awards 2016.

We continue to be extremely proud of Josh, a student of Great Yarmouth College, who has become a much-valued member of the L and G Engineering team and wish him continued success.

Leading The Field

We recently came to the rescue of a local poultry supplier that had been searching (unsuccessfully) for an efficient poultry sanitiser to combat bacteria, especially Campylobacter, on their freshly processed poultry.

Campylobacter is the most common cause of food poisoning in the UK and it’s therefore of the utmost importance to deal with its presence in the food chain.

We’re always keen to rise to a challenge here at L and G and this was no exception. We got to work on the design and fabrication of a sanitising system that was capable of maintaining the constant, high temperature required to combat the bacteria, as selected by the client. The process involves hot water to sanitize the bird that is kept at a very high, consistent temperature (within 0.5ยบ of selection) that the bacteria are unable to withstand.

There is a call by the food industry and supermarkets for this practice to become industry standard, so at L and G Engineering we’re extremely proud to be at the forefront of developing this finely tuned process.

Drying With Gas

L and G Engineering are pleased to have recently installed new gas burners for the herb dryers at a popular East Anglian company.

The flat bed dryer operates using direct-fired gas burners and a powerful fan, to ensure that the herbs are subjected to the correct, constant temperature for optimum drying. Take a look at our movie showing the herb drying process in action with the newly installed gas burners running.

At L and G we’re highly experienced in gas installation and maintenance with industrial registration within the Gas Safe scheme, making us an ideal choice when updating your gas installations. Visit www.landgengineering.co.uk/gas_fitting.html

Josh Makes EuroSkills Team!

At the end of November this year, L and G Engineering apprentice Josh Peek will be joining 20 other young UK hopefuls at EuroSkills 2016 in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Josh, who trains at Great Yarmouth College, is Team UK’s entrant in the welding section of the competition, in which more than 30 European countries will compete.

EuroSkills brings together young people up to the age of 25 who excel in their chosen vocational skill, with the aim of promoting the status and appeal of vocational training. Skills in the competition include construction, engineering, hospitality and creative disciplines. Running alongside the actual competition are a number of exhibitions, seminars and try-a-skill challenges.

At L and G we’re very proud of Josh and his extremely competent welding skills – he’s a valuable member of our team, and we’d like to wish him the very best of luck at EuroSkills! Next stop Abu Dhabi for WorldSkills!

As Skills Minister Nick Boles said: “The young people who have earned a place on Team UK are worthy ambassadors and show the great things you can achieve with high quality apprenticeships and technical training.”
